Editor’s Note: Morning Open Thread is looking for community members willing to take on hosting duties—whether it’s a day here and there or a regular weekly post: Saturdays and Tuesdays are open. If you’re interested, just reach out to me or Officebss. And thank you.
Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.
I’ve come to think of this post as one where you come for the music and stay for the conversation—so feel free to drop a note.

Cheers everyone. I have to say, life has a way of catching up no matter how fast you run. We took the weekend off to head to the island for some down time and it was great. Barbecue, fish, shrimp, some good conversation, and plenty of time to read and even nap. Now, though, the piper is demanding payment. So, back to a chaotic work day on Monday, catching up with laundry and meal prep, finishing up an essay I’m working on, getting the bills paid and some course work for my son scheduled, and a long call for some work training for him yesterday. All good, I’ll say, but I’m also sitting here laughing as I write because he and I are both looking forward to some leftover barbecue and a long night’s rest.
Life is good, I have to say, if only we work daily to put everything in perspective and remember that stopping to take a breath—even it puts you behind schedule—is time well spent. Take care everyone and I hope you’re having a splendid week so far.
Given my overall schedule at work, I am going to take the next few Tuesdays for music from a wonderful organization: Playing for Change. If you aren’t familiar with the group, I would highly recommend you tour their site and see what they’re all about.
“We inspire and connect the world through music.”
Our primary focus is to record, and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power through a variety of videos.
Chances are, one of those videos brought you here today, along with millions of others music-lovers from every continent.
To date, we have produced nearly 400 videos, recorded over 1,400 musicians in 60+ countries, and touched the hearts of over 2 billion viewers through our music videos, performances, and school programs.
